Choose your skiing and starting point
Read the snow and terrain on Mount Okenashi
Arai offers groomed pistes and freeriding zones on Mount Okenashi. Ungroomed slopes and gullies draw experienced skiers, but abundant snow does not guarantee that a particular area opens. Avalanche control, visibility and wind affect access. Choose where to ski from the morning report and decisions made on the mountain.
Beginners should start with groomed terrain
Despite Arai’s powder reputation, beginners should choose from the open runs and difficulty ratings on the official map. Arrange lessons or rental equipment and check your ability and descent options before travelling higher. Mixed-ability groups can split between practice slopes and ungroomed terrain, then meet for a meal at the base.
Make time for the hotel and nearby towns
Lotte Arai Resort combines accommodation, dining, Hoshizora Onsen and seasonal activities. On a longer stay, alternate ski days with a rest day. An outing to Joetsu or Takada adds local food and history. Arai Mountain Resort is the ski-area name; Lotte Arai Resort names the wider hotel and resort complex.
