ROUTE 1

From Yamagata Station, take the local bus to the hot spring town

Take the Yamagata Shinkansen or Senzan Line to Yamagata Station. Take the Yamako bus bound for Zao Onsen to the bus terminal and transfer to your accommodation or each slope. By deciding where you will pick up your rental car and where you will be picked up and dropped off at your accommodation, you can shorten the time it takes to carry heavy luggage.

ROUTE 2

For cars, choose the entrance on the Yamagata side.

The official guide route for Tokyo is Prefectural Route 21 from Yamagata Kamiyama IC, and for Sendai, the Nishi Zao Kogen Line from Yamagata Zao IC. Pack your winter gear and choose an official parking lot that's compatible with the slopes you'll be skiing on. The Zao Echo Line, which crosses Yamagata and Miyagi, is closed in winter.

ROUTE 3

From the airport, combine train and bus

There are two ways to get there: from Yamagata Airport to Yamagata Station and by bus, or from Sendai Airport to Yamagata via Sendai Station. Information on direct flights and reservation-based transfers in winter changes each year, so be sure to check round-trip connections before deciding on a flight.
