01 / TRAVEL NOTES
Check opening, dining and transfers before booking
General day visitors may use only bath No.9, Oyu. Current information lists 10:00–17:00, adult ¥800 and child ¥500; the child age definition remains unconfirmed. Buy a ticket and ask an authorised facility to unlock the bath. Keys to all nine baths are borrowed by Shibu Onsen overnight guests, not automatically by Shiga hotel guests. Hair washing is prohibited; shampoo and body soap are not provided. Check temporary closures and staff availability.
Oyu is a public bath in Shibu Onsen’s cobbled hot-spring town, separate from baths at hotels in Shiga Kogen. Day visitors can use Oyu, but cannot freely tour all nine public baths.
For the nine-bath tour, stay at a participating inn in Shibu Onsen and borrow the inn’s key. A booking at a Shiga Kogen hotel does not provide the same access.
03 / TRAVEL NOTES
Buy a ticket and arrange for the door to be unlocked
Buy a bathing ticket at the tourist information centre or a designated inn, then ask a designated facility to unlock the door. Staff may not always be available, so arrive with time to spare.
The official day-use guidance lists 10am to 5pm. Plan your skiing and onward journey together so that you arrive in time; check official notices for temporary closures.
Hair washing is prohibited at Oyu, and shampoo and body soap are not provided. Bring a towel and dry clothes; prepare for a village bathhouse rather than a hotel’s bathing facilities.
Official confirmation of day use hours and temporary closures.
Read information about where to purchase bath tickets and unlock facilities.
By car, please follow the designated directions such as the Shibu Onsen large paid parking lot and allow time to walk around the hot spring town.
