SHIGA KOGEN / WINTER JOURNAL

Shiga Kogen: Where to ski and stay

The long slopes of Yakebitaiyama, the tranquil hotels of Okushiga, the hot springs of Kumanoyu. At Shiga Kogen, which is large, choosing your lodgings from the ski area will shorten your morning journey and give you more time on the snow.

01 / TRAVEL NOTES

Start with the area you want to ski

Yakebitaiyama / Okushiga | Combine hotel and skiing

For Yakebitaiyama, consider Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel, and for Okushiga, choose Okushiga Kogen Hotel. Prince has different rooms and facilities in the east, south, and west buildings.

Ichinose and Takamagahara | Ski several areas

If you plan on skiing mainly in the central area, you can also compare accommodations in the area using the official accommodation list. The three facilities introduced here are not the only lodgings of Shiga Kogen.

Kumanoyu / Yokoteyama | Enjoy hot springs and high-altitude snow

A trip that combines Kumanoyu Hotel's hot springs and skiing in the Kumanoyu/Yokoteyama area. If you plan on traveling to Okushiga or Yakebitaiyama every day, check the distance and bus first.

Yakebitaiyama

Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel

Choose the building first, then plan your Yakebitaiyama mornings.

Base
Yakebitaiyama
Slope access
South Building connects to the gondola; East and West have separate routes.
Rooms
Room examples are East Wing twin 29m² and suite 58m², South Wing Twin B 24m² or C 18m², and West Wing Twin D 19.2m² or three/four-bed room 21.7m². Match the building, category and occupancy in the booking screen; a photographed room is not the standard room in every wing.
Baths & facilities
The West Wing bath is for West Wing guests only. It is a roofed outdoor bath without an indoor bath and is not a natural hot spring. The facility page still shows a 2025–26 period; confirm current hours and whether guests from another wing may use it before booking.
Winter transport
Choose East, South or West Wing, then match its bus stop and lift entrance. South Wing connects directly to Gondola 2. The wings have different entrances; check rental pickup and the open route to the slopes.

Planned 2026–27 starts are South Wing 2026-12-04, West Wing 2026-12-18 and East Wing 2026-12-19. Accommodation end dates remain unconfirmed. The hotel shuttle PDF is from 2025–26 and does not establish this season’s service, eligibility or reservation deadline.

Okushiga

Okushiga Kogen Hotel

Ski Okushiga and save the evening for dinner and the fireplace.

Base
Okushiga
Slope access
Check connecting lifts and return buses for other Shiga Kogen areas.
Rooms
The operator lists Deluxe Twin 32m² for 1–2 guests and Deluxe Triple 43m² for 2–4. Pet rooms are separate categories. Compare the category in each photograph against the actual room being booked.
Baths & facilities
The communal bath uses filtered mountain water, not natural hot springs. Current day-use information lists 12:00–23:00 and ¥600 including a borrowed bath towel. Day admission and the reservation-only sauna have separate conditions; reconfirm for your visit.
Winter transport
Match the Okushiga Kogen Hotel bus stop to the hotel reception and Center House. Check that the bus goes to Okushiga; Hasuike is not your final arrival. If skiing across to Yakebitaiyama, check the last return lift first.

The public bus stop at Okushiga Kogen Hotel is not proof of a hotel transfer. A private station shuttle and this winter’s accommodation start/end dates remain unconfirmed. Dinner conditions depend on Gendai, Kunenbo or Shirakaba; Kunenbo is winter-only.

Kumanoyu

Kumanoyu Hotel

Ski Kumanoyu, then leave the evening for its green hot-spring water.

Base
Kumanoyu
Slope access
Plan separate return transport for Yakebitaiyama or Okushiga ski days.
Rooms
A ten-tatami Japanese room is listed for 1–5 guests with bath and toilet. Compare Western and mixed rooms by bedding and occupancy. The official FAQ’s approximately 5-minute walk to the ski area is a guide; allow extra time for snow and carrying equipment.
Baths & facilities
The natural hot-spring indoor and outdoor baths alternate between men and women daily. Day-use reception is weekdays 12:30–15:30 and weekends/holidays 12:30–15:00. Admission may be refused on busy days; call before setting out. Overnight-guest bathing has different conditions.
Winter transport
Check the Kumanoyu or Hotaru Onsen (Suzurikawa) stop against your hotel and lift entrance. Read the destination on buses from Nagano or Yudanaka; an Okushiga-bound service does not necessarily take you here. Plan a separate transfer for Yokoteyama.

Dinner is 18:00–19:30. The official FAQ says arrival after 19:30 on a dinner plan means no dinner and no refund. It also declines meal changes for allergies, religion or dislikes. Discuss any necessary arrangements before booking rather than assuming they can be provided.

Three days in the snow

On the first day, we skied at a ski resort close to the hotel, and had dinner at the hotel instead of having to travel too much. If you plan to expand to another area the next day, decide in advance not only the connecting route to the destination, but also the lift and bus times for the return trip. To visit Yudanaka and Shibu Onsen's public baths, plan a day trip from a hotel on the plateau and an overnight stay in the hot spring town.

This is a model plan. Please change it according to the event date, transportation, and reservation conditions.

Arrival date | Go to accommodation in selected area

Check the bus and stop to get to the inn. Arrange your equipment, decide on your entrance for the next morning, and return to your hotel with plenty of time for dinner.

Skiing day | From near the inn, spread out in snowy conditions

First, carefully consider the area where you will be staying. If you use a shuttle lift or bus, check the return time and operation status before proceeding.

Last day | One stop after descending the mountain

Shibu Onsen and Jigokudani Monkey Park are not on the slopes of Shiga Kogen. If you plan to stop by, plan to include extra transportation, luggage, and walking time on snowy roads.

06 / TRAVEL NOTES

From the station or airport to your hotel and slopes

Two public routes are the express bus from Nagano Station’s east exit, or Nagano Dentetsu rail to Yudanaka followed by a local bus. Hasuike’s Mountain Station is a hub, not every hotel’s front door. Search the actual destination and avoid adding an unnecessary transfer. Confirmed 2026–27 winter times, final connections and booking deadlines remain unverified. The winter page still covers 2025-12-06–2026-04-06; the current green-season guide ends 2026-12-04. Neither is the full coming-winter timetable.
