01 / TRAVEL NOTES

First, choose where you want to ski

Ski Happo-one, stay in Wadano

For those who want plenty of time on the snow and a quiet evening at a hotel in the forest. For Wadano and Happo lodgings, check the transfer to Happo-one and any dinner shuttle together.

For a first snow trip, start with where you will practise

Decide the lesson meeting point and the gentle slopes first, such as Tsugaike's Kane no Naru Oka or Goryu's Toomi. It makes your morning easier than choosing a hotel by name alone.

Evenings out around Echoland

Cafés and restaurants are part of the trip. They are not always next to the slopes, so check the daytime shuttle and how you will get back at night before you book.

Where you stay changes how the trip feels

Don't choose from photos alone. Compare the move to the slopes, the rooms, the onsen and dinner. Here you can sort out the differences before going to a hotel's official page.

Two nights, without rushing, in winter

This is one way to plan the trip. Swap days around to suit transport, opening hours and weather.

Arrival day | A forest hotel and an onsen

Leave your bags at the hotel and confirm rentals and the next morning's transfer. If you stop at Happo-no-Yu, check the last admission time, and book one dinner rather than packing in moves.

Ski day | One mountain, properly

On the first day, resist switching mountains. Ski terrain that suits your level, take breaks and lunch, and leave yourself margin for the shuttle back.

Last day | Ski once more, or stay in the village

Judge by snow and energy: ski a half day or head to a café. Work out luggage pickup and the trip to Nagano Station backwards from your return train.

Before you book, these four things

  • Do the dates, number of guests and children's bedding conditions match?
  • Is there a transfer between the ski area and the hotel, and how do booking and last departures work?
  • Is dinner included, or will you book a restaurant outside? Who can use the onsen and when?
  • Have you checked the cancellation terms, snowfall transport and the total cost of the stay?
