01 / TRAVEL NOTES

Choose your skiing and starting point

Two ropeway entrances, three ski areas

Mitsumata Ropeway and Tashiro Ropeway are the entrances to the Mitsumata, Kagura and Tashiro areas above. Returning to your starting point depends on connecting lifts and runs being open. Choose an entrance when booking accommodation and buses.

Long mountain runs and lake views

Long descents around Kagura’s main slope sit alongside views towards Lake Tashiro. Choose gentle terrain, moguls or ungroomed snow according to your ability. Reaching the slopes from the ropeway entrance involves transfers. On your first visit, spend time in one area before extending the journey.

Plan spring skiing around the operating areas

The mountain has a long season, but Mitsumata–Kagura and Tashiro do not necessarily share opening dates. In spring, check snow, lift operations and how to descend. Mountain restaurants also have operating periods: plan lunch and the final return alongside your ski route.

02 / TRAVEL NOTES

Courses, distances and arrival times

A resort spanning Mitsumata, Kagura and Tashiro. Ropeways carry visitors up from the entrances, so choose where you will arrive before planning transfers around the mountain.

Published figures describe the scope noted below. Check today’s open terrain and lift status with the resort.

6,000 m is the longest linked descent; 27,690 m is the total length of all runs. Ropeway travel is part of the return to the base and is separate from skiing distance.

For an Echigo-Yuzawa stay, decide whether to use Mitsumata or Tashiro and arrange the return journey first. The hotels below are not connected to the ropeways. Station pickup does not necessarily include ski-resort transport: check dates, meeting points and the last service separately.

Separate lunch on the mountain from dinner in town

The restaurants below are around Echigo-Yuzawa Station. Choose a mountain lunch around open venues and your ski route; for town dining, allow for the ropeway descent and the journey back to the station.

The linked restaurant guide still shows 2025–26 rates and periods. Operating venues and menus for 2026–27 are unverified here; check the latest announcements.

Plan both journeys around Mitsumata or Tashiro

From Echigo-Yuzawa Station’s east exit, choose Mitsumata Ropeway or Tashiro Ropeway before arranging transport. Allow additional time after reaching the entrance for ropeways, lifts and transfers before skiing.

The bus timetable linked by the official access page is for 2025–26. Services, journey times and last departures for 2026–27 are not verified in this update. Check that connecting terrain can take you back to your entrance; a gondola connection towards Naeba is not a replacement for a road bus.

08 / TRAVEL NOTES

Before you ski

  • Check the day’s open runs, lift operation and weather with the resort.
  • Choose runs and a return route suited to everyone’s ability.
  • Confirm lesson meeting points, rental pickup and the final transport home.
