Reach GALA by Shinkansen, spend a day on Kagura’s snow or ski Naeba from morning to afternoon. With Echigo-Yuzawa Station and the hot-spring town as a base, turn a day on the slopes into an overnight stay.

01 / TRAVEL NOTES
Choose where to ski first
GALA | An easy arrival by train
In winter, GALA Yuzawa Station connects directly to the ski centre. It works well for a day trip; for an overnight visit, consider Echigo-Yuzawa’s hot-spring town. The South Area is scheduled to close for 2026–27, so check this season’s official operating information.
Kagura | Leave more time for the slopes
Choose the Mitsumata or Tashiro entrance and arrange transport from Echigo-Yuzawa. The journey within the resort to Kagura also takes time: arriving at the station is not the same as being ready to ski.
Naeba | Keep the hotel and slopes close
If you want to ski Naeba every day, compare accommodations in the Naeba area, and if you want to enjoy multiple mountains and hot spring towns, then compare accommodations in Echigo-Yuzawa. Please check the season, weather, and ticket type before using the connecting service between Naeba and Kagura.

Communal baths, paid telephone-booked private baths and rooms with open-air baths are separate choices.

Slope access
Transfers are described for GALA Yuzawa and Yuzawa Kogen. Confirm this winter’s date, time and drop-off point.
Rooms
Distinguish Japanese-style rooms from Ginrei rooms with open-air baths; match bedding, party size and meals to your offer.
Baths & facilities
Communal baths differ from room bathrooms. Day bathing is currently closed; communal outdoor baths use winter circulation and heating.
Winter transport
Train-arriving overnight guests call after reaching the station. Meet near the west-exit taxi rank; no advance pickup-time bookings.
Kasumi no Ma is for overnight guests only. Discuss steps and stairs on routes to rooms, dining and baths.
If you're staying overnight, you can choose to ski at GALA on the first day and stay in a hot spring town, or you can rest at an inn and start skiing the next morning. Make sure you have the dinner time at your inn, train, and pick-up destination in mind before making your plans. On the days you head to Kagura or Naeba, there will be more trips from the station, so it's best to plan so you don't cram everything into the same day.
This itinerary is one option. Adjust it to transport, opening dates and the weather.
Arrival day | From the station to the inn
Leave your bags, confirm the next day’s ski resort and transport, then enjoy hegi soba or local rice before a bath at the inn. Even near the station, a steep approach may make a transfer worthwhile.
Skiing day | Allow for the journey to the mountain
GALA pairs the railway with its ski centre; Kagura adds a bus and ropeway; Naeba requires a longer bus journey. Check the preparations before your first run and the final service back.
Departure day | A few runs or a meal in town
Choose according to the snow and your return train. Leaving time for Ponshukan or the hot-spring town makes the weekend more than a ski trip.
06 / TRAVEL NOTES
From the station to your hotel and the slopes
From Tokyo, take the Joetsu Shinkansen to Echigo-Yuzawa. Another option for GALA is to use GALA Yuzawa Station during the winter. Kagura/Naeba requires further bus transportation from the station. Make sure to distinguish between whether the hotel you are staying at will pick up and drop off at the train station or the ski resort before making your reservation.
